Install Thawte SSL Certificate on IPlanet 4.x, 5.x, 6.x


This document provides instructions for installing the Thawte SSL Certificate on IPlanet 4.x, 5.x, 6.x
Step 1: Install the Thawte Intermediate CA certificate
All SSL certificates require the installation of Intermediate CA Certificate.
  1. Download the Thawte Intermediate CA certificate: INFO1384
  2. Copy the Thawte Intermediate CA and paste into a text file. Be sure to use a text editor such as Notepad or Vi
  3. Name the file as intermediate.txt
  4. Select the server instance to manage and click Manage
  5. Click Security
  6. Click Install Certificate
  7. Select Server Certificate Chain
  8. Enter the key pair file password
  9. Enter a Certificate Name. For example, type Intermediate CA
  10. Select Message text (with headers)
  11. Paste the contents within the intermediate.txt file (including the -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- and -----END CERTIFICATE-----) into the box then click OK.
  12. Click Add Server Certificate
  13. Do not shutdown or restart the server.

    Note: There should be some processing and a statement saying that the server which utilizes this information must be shutdown and restarted. Again, don't shutdown and restart the server until the steps below are completed.
Step 2: Install the Thawte SSL Certificate
  1. Download your certificate as per the instruction on the following solution:
  2. Save the Certificate as cert.txt
  3. In the Web Server Admin Server, select the Servers tab
  4. Select Manager Server
  5. Select the appropriate server and click on Manage
  6. Select the Security tab
  7. From the side panel menu on the left frame, select the Install Certificate"option
  8. In the "Install a Server Certificate" frame, do the following:
    1. Select the "This Server"radio button
    2. Select the "Message text (with headers)" radio button
    3. Copy and paste the certificate into the "Message text (with headers)" field
    4. Click OK
  9. On the page where the cert profile is shown click Add certificate

Step 3: Turning on Encryption

  1. Click the Preferences Tab in the server manager
  2. Click Encryption On/Off
  3. In Encryption On/Off window, click the ON radio button
  4. Choose your port number (default is port 443)
  5. Click OK
  6. Click Save and Apply
  7. The server should then be shutdown and restarted

Step 4: Verify certificate installation

To verify if your certificate is installed correctly, use the Thawte Installation Checker
