Configure Internet Explorer 7,8, 9 & 10 to allow Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Authenticode, Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Office and VBA, & Authentic Document IDs for BREW enrollment

Solution

In order to allow Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9 & 10 to successfully enroll, install, and renew a Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Authenticode, Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Office and VBA & Authentic Document IDs for BREW certificate, please make the following changes to the security settings of the browser:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, 8, & 9

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. From the menu bar, click Tools Internet Options > Security
  3. Select Trusted sites zone
  4. Click Sites
  5. Add the following site to the trusted sites list
    • Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Authenticode & Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Office and VBA - https://products.websecurity.symantec.com
    • Authentic Document IDs for BREW - https://brew.websecurity.symantec.com
  6. Click Add for the website added to the zone > click Close > click OK
  7. In the Security tab, click the Custom Level button
  8. Under ActiveX controls and plug-ins, set the following ActiveX options:
    • Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls: Enable
    • Binary and script behaviors: Enable
    • Download signed ActiveX controls: Prompt
    • Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Prompt
    • Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked safe: Prompt
    • Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Enable
    • Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting: Enable
  9. Under Downloads the settings should be:
    • Automatic prompting for file downloads: Enable
    • File Download: Enable
  10. Click OK > OK
  11. Close the Internet Explorer windows
     

Note: If the enrollment still does not work correctly it could be due to a cache issue. If any additional problems occur please clear the browser cache.

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. From the menu bar, click Tools > Internet Options > General
  3. Under the section "Browsing history" select the "Delete" button
  4. Check the following box:
    • Temporary Internet files
    • Cookies
    • History
    • Form data
    • Passwords
    • InPrivate Filtering data
  5. Select Delete button
  6. Once the cache is cleared, close and re-open Internet Explorer and attempt the enrollment again.

 

Microsoft Internet Explorer 10

Step 1: Add web site as Trusted sites

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. From the menu bar, click Tools Internet Options


     
  3. Click Security tab > Trusted Sites > Sites


     
  4. Add the following site to the trusted sites list
    • Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Authenticode & Code Signing Certificate for Microsoft Office and VBA - https://products.websecurity.symantec.com
    • Authentic Document IDs for BREW - https://brew.websecurity.symantec.com
  5. Click Add

    Note:
    If the Add button is grayed out, consult your local IT Administrator to add a site to the trusted sites list.


     
  6. Click Close > OK
     

Step 2: Enable Compatibility Mode

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Right click on the top bar - select Menu bar


     
  3.  Click Tools > Compatibility View settings


     
  4. Check the option box for Display all websites in Compatibility View


     
  5. Click Close > OK
     

Please close and re-open Internet Explorer browser to successfully enroll, install or renew a Symantec Code Signing certificate.
